Dear Yuletide Author!
First of all, an apology for being a bit late getting this letter up. I want you to enjoy writing this story, so please don’t feel compelled to stick to anything I mention here. The only explicit requirements that I have are that it has to end happily, and ideally have no character death outside what we are given in the original canon.
I love angst and relationship negotiation and people figuring out who they are and who they can be, and people getting to be their true selves. I'm happy for people to be miserable for a bit until their happy ending. I don’t mind whether you want to write something explicit or something that has no sex; the rating should be whatever you feel comfortable writing.
Fandoms:
1. Mansfield Park - Jane Austen
Henry Crawford/Fanny Price
Growing up I was always a bit bored by Mansfield Park, and I couldn’t really see the appeal. As an adult I’ve come back to it again and again, and I love how Fanny gets to be the heroine despite being shy and obedient and at times lonely, and how she feels about the family she finds herself a part of, and where she comes from. I also really like how the relationship changes between her and Henry Crawford - obviously until he canonically ruins it by running off with Maria Bertram. I’d really like to see how Fanny and Henry’s relationship grows, and how it might be that they end up being happy together. At what point canon diverges (and if it does!) is entirely up to you, so long as it’s a happy ending.
2. Knives Out (2019)
Ransom Drysdale/Marta Cabrera
Look, country house murder mysteries are ABSOLUTELY my jam, and country house murder mysteries starring excellent knitwear are EVEN MORE my jam. I am under no illusions that this is, on the face of it, a healthy relationship. There’s just something compelling (fictionally) about morally grey characters* fitting their morality into the world around them. There’s also something compelling about Marta being able to exert control over someone no one else can control, and if you wanted to take this into a d/s direction then this would be received most happily. Please don't kill off Ransom or Marta or any of Marta's family but in the fashion of murder mysteries set in country houses, it's practically a entry requirement that Ransom's family are fair game (should you wish to, of course, if everyone else remains alive then this is also fine).
*grey is a loose term when it comes to this but go with it
3. Live Free or Die Hard
I really just enjoy this age difference relationship, folks. They're both VERY good at what they do (uncovering terrorist plots, taking on that 'one man vs million dollar flying machines' mantel, typing things quickly into computers and... bringing down cities, take my understanding of their skills quite lightly) and are both sort of lonely and married to their work and not excellent at looking after themselves? And, seemingly, they trust each other in moments of great peril and save each other's lives SO I would very much like to read about them falling in love, thank you very much.
4. Victor Victoria
Victoria Grant/King Marchand
Such a delightfully queer film, but I'd like to know what happens after that final act, and how queer it stays. What does it mean for their understanding of gender and who they are, and how they love each other? Whatever you want to do with this is fine by me, I'm just fascinated to see more of them.
5. Shetland
Jimmy Perez/Duncan Hunter
Ah, my favourite co-parenting, middle aged men canonically growing their relationship over time plotline. I'd just like to see how their relationship shifts into something more romantic. I really enjoy the setting of this show, and Jimmy Perez's wool coat. The coat is great. I really love that coat. You could probably write 1000 words about that coat, and maybe Jimmy staring into the middle distance whilst wearing it and I'd be happy tbh, but when it comes to knitwear and a good coat I'm startlingly easy. Maybe just team the coat with a bit of falling in love too, idk. (Please do that).
6. Ted Lasso
Keeley Jones/Roy Kent/Jamie Tartt
The threesome of my heart. I'd love to see them get it together, and how complicated that is, (or not complicated, but with negotiation). There's something so genuinely compassionate about this entire show, and I love its emotional honesty (and how Ted's almost toxic positivity at times also hurts him, but that's an aside for another time). You should be aware that Roy hugging Jamie is one of my very favourite television moments, in case you want an insight into my character. See, even talking about Ted Lasso makes me share an emotionally vulnerable moment in my life. GDI, Ted.
But really, I just want you to be happy writing something fun in a small fandom you enjoy, and I don’t want to be too specific about plot. :)
I’m excited to see what you come up with. Thank you in advance, and hope you have fun writing.
