I just saw The Hobbit and I loved it. It's possible I liked it more than the book. Well, probable.

I didn't particularly want to be spoiled, and up until this week I was really, really busy, so didn't read any reviews or comments from people who'd seen it before Christmas, so I genuinely have no idea if it is loved or people found it meh or disliked it, but I really liked it. The cinema veered from being boiling to freezing though, so I spent the whole time putting my coat on and taking it off again.

Anyway! Christmas means gifts, and yuletide, and bandomstuffsit.

For Yuletide, I got the lovely Just a Number by Florahart
(What's Your Number, Ally/Colin)

Summary: Ally and Colin celebrate their anniversary(s).

This is LOVELY. It's Ally and Colin through the years, anniversary after anniversary. So very nice indeed. ♥ ♥ ♥

For [livejournal.com profile] bandomstuffsit, I got Like two birds of a feather would be.
(Pete/Mikey, Adult.)

Summary: Hiding places, Santa hats, Pencey Prep, and some really dirty dancing.

Oh gosh, Pete and Mikey were my very first OTP and I so invested in their happy ever after. Lovely.

(I wrote Someone Like You (What's Your Number, Ally/Colin) for Yuletide, and the stuffsit reveals aren't for a bit yet).

So, every year I try to read 104 books, which averages out at about 2 a week.

I kind of sort of exceeded that this year. I read 210. Yeahhhhhhhhh. I really did make the most of my commute, and I re-read a lot of children's and YA books too.

Anyway, as ever, list is below the cut. Check the ones you've read, tell me about books you've read that you think I should read in the comments. &books; &books; &books;

2012 book list/poll )

Notes! Books I loved. )

Books I didn't like (warning for mention of domestic abuse masquerading as a romance novel) )

And lastly:

Lol:

- How to Raise an Honest Rabbit - this book is about a manchild ex crim who finds salvation and love whilst learning to knit on an alpaca farm. It comes with knitting patterns. In case you are the kind of person to buy a book on this kind of rec (lol) (lol lol lol) then the guy he falls in love with does actually leave high school and grow up a bit before they get together. But it is a book about an ex crim who gets taken to an alpaca farm to learn to love both himself and alpacas. And knitting. And the boy who works there. Um.

This year I'm aiming for 104 again. I suspect 210 was a fluke and a half. /o\

Today is the latest in a long line of spectacularly stressful, spectacularly busy days. In honour of that, here is a massive McFly picspam, because I am the kind of person who likes to periodically upload the contents of their memory stick to photobucket.

I know nobody (except for [livejournal.com profile] katie__pillar) cares about them at all, but whatever, we do.

But how can you resist them? Really?

If this is love, then love is easy.  )

Okay, livejournal, I know that pretty much none of you (apart from [livejournal.com profile] katie__pillar, who is my partner in crime) care about McFly at all, but I need to talk about this picture, and how Harry is carrying both Dougie AND Danny:

THAT ISN'T UNHOT, RIGHT. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm strength. This one might be my new favourite.

Three more pictures and a video, if you're intrigued and want more... )

And now back to your regularly scheduled programming. I will be over here, having some feelings. Mostly about people being strong.

I wrote a thing.

Title: Perdition
Author: [livejournal.com profile] sunsetmog
Fandom: Downton Abbey
Pairing: Thomas Barrow/OMC
Rating: Adult
Word count: 24826
Warnings: Some mention of suicide, in reference to Edward Courtenay.
Summary: Thomas is manipulative, ambitious, and ruthless. He's also lonely as hell.

And then the new gardener starts at Downton, and everything changes.

(a slightly alternate look at season three, or: Thomas might be mean but he also needs a hug)

So, at the beginning of last week, [livejournal.com profile] katie__pillar and I were emailing, as we like to do, and then all of a sudden THOMAS FEELINGS sprang into existence and it became of the utmost importance that someone, somewhere, liked Thomas for who he was. So we invented Alec Thwaite, the new Downton gardener, and I emailed Katie this story all week as I wrote it, only stopping to watch Thomas fanvids on YouTube.

This can be seen as an alternate series three for Thomas--Sybil and Branson stay in Ireland, other bits and pieces happen, Thwaite starts work and joins the servants for lunch every day. There has been little historical research done into this (although I do know more about 1920s alarm clocks than I did last week) and all mistakes are firmly my own. I also made up Thomas' family background.

It should be noted that me and Downton Abbey are on A Break at the moment, so I haven't seen the last couple of episodes, although Katie has kept me up to date on what's happened.

Beta by [livejournal.com profile] hermette. Thank you, bb. <3

Warnings for some discussion of suicide, mostly in reference to Edward Courtenay.

This fic owes a nod of gratitude towards E.M. Forster's Maurice, particular Alec's name.

For [livejournal.com profile] katie__pillar, and Thomas, who nobody loves.

RICHARD ARMITAGE. I think this calls for a North and South rewatch, omg.
sunsetmog: (Panic - New Perspective)
A little bit of fic from my hard drive.

This one was supposed to be a kind of Lord Peter Wimsey-esque story in which Spencer was Brendon's valet, and Brendon was some kind of private detective. I may return to this at some point, but WIP amnesties are sometimes a good idea, especially when writing anything at the moment feels like pulling teeth. Maybe it'll inspire me :)

1000 words, unfinished, Brendon/Spencer.

The advertisement had been cut out of The Times, folded in to quarters and torn at the edges where it had been kept in his pocket. )
